FoHCAS Offers Naming Rights for New Haywood shelter

The Friends of the Haywood County Animal Shelter (FoHCAS) organization is offering naming rights to various parts of the new shelter now under construction following the November 2016 approval by the Haywood County Board of  Commissioners.

The naming rights are offered in six categories: Customer  Service Areas, Animal Care Facilities, Adopt a Kennel, Common and Campus Areas, Outdoor Memorials and Tribute Bricks. Prices range from a high of $250,000 for the right to name the adoption lobby, all the way down to $100 for a tribute brick in an outdoor walkway. Between those extremes are the rights to name an examination room ($25,000), an indoor-outdoor dog kennel ($5,000), or a cat housing unit ($1,000).

Doyle Teague, Director of Haywood County Animal Services said that the new shelter is scheduled to open in November 2017.  When completed it will double the capacity for sheltering cats from the current 32 up to 64. The new facility will also accommodate 48 dogs at a time compared to the current 32 dogs, a 50% increase. Teague said that ground had been broken for the new shelter this past December, and that the footings have all been put in place. Work on the under-slab plumbing was underway at PetGazette press time.

FoHCAS has an overall monetary goal of one million dollars, the amount needed to supply the new shelter with furnishings and equipment. It had raised a bit over $200,000 as of  November 2016, so still has about $800,000 to raise by October 31,2017 to meet its commitment.
